Javier Sáez, Sejo Carrascosa and Paco Vidarte: three Spanish radical fags (maricas). Together with Preciado and other activists they created the Grupo de Trabalho Queer (GTQ). The GTQ as a collective is credited with creating the first queer theory workshops and events in Spain, and they also have translated important books Iike Wittig’s Straight Mind and published a few anthologies with their own texts,

such as:

  • El eje del mal es heterossexual (2005)
  • Teoria queer: políticas bolleras, maricas, trans, mestizas (2007)

other recommendations:

  • Paco Vidarte: Ética marica (2010)
  • Javier Sáez: Teoría queer y psicoanálisis (2007)
  • Sáez and Carrascosa: Por el culo (2011)

Virginie Despentes: you definitely know her if you’re into Preciado. A french novelist and filmmaker. Radically sex-positive and punk rock, she is famous for her explosive feminist art and is constantly collaborating with Preciado. She also had a romantic relationship with him for many years.

recommended books:

  • King Kong théorie (2006)
  • Baise-moi (1993)
  • Vernon Subutex (Trilogy, 2015–2017)

some films:

  • Baise-moi (2000)
  • Mutantes (2009)
  • Bye Bye Blondie (2011)

Itziar Ziga: euskal writer and activist, she is close to and an apparent lover of Preciado; a prominent figure of putafeminismo.

check her work:

  • Devenir perra (2009)
  • La feliz y violenta vida de Maribel Ziga (2020)
  • Her contributions to Parole de Queer

Del LaGrace Volcano: iconic American intersexual queer photographer. Del is an old friend of Preciado and used to be his testosterone dealer as seen in T-Junkie.

try to get your hands on these photo-books:

  • Love Bites (1991)
  • Sex Works 1978–2005 (2005)
  • The Drag King Book (with Jack Halberstam, 1999)
  • Femmes of Power (with Ulrika Dahl, 2008)

Sam Bourcier: French philosopher, the first of Preciado’s collaborators; they wrote prefaces for each other’s books. Bourcier and Preciado co-authored essays and developed together queer theory in France and the concept of sexopolitics.

his books are:

  • Queer Zones: la trilogie (2018)
  • Homo.Incorporated: le triangle et la licorne qui pète (2017)
  • Q comme Queer (editor, 1998)

Guillaume Dustan: the only one who can read Testo Junkie. Dustan was an important figure of French underground gay club scene and was known for his auto-pornographic writing. Dustan was the editor of Le Rayon/Rayon Gay and responsible for the publication of many queer books in his country — including Countersexual Manifesto and Queer Zones. His death by an overdose is a central topic in Testo Junkie. I strongly recommend the new collection of his first three novels: The Works of Guillaume Dustan, Volume 1 (2021).

Jack Halberstam: hardly needs to be introduced or have his books listed; he is one of the most famous queer writers in the USA and highly respected by Preciado. Halberstam did the foreword for the American edition of the Manifesto and was part of the Parliament of Bodies during Preciado’s time as a curator for documenta 14.

Judith Butler: It’s Butler, you know her. But perhaps it didn’t come to your attention the couple of interviews they did with Preciado. The first one was for the french magazine Têtu, and the second for Lectora, a journal of Universitat de Barcelona. One could absolutely say Preciado’s work is an offspring of Butler’s, and recently he has dedicated Can the Monster Speak? to her.

Annie Sprinkle and Beth Stephens: legendary couple of American performers, they are also good friends with Preciado. Internationally famous multimedia whore, Sprinkle is one of Preciado’s most important influences. The couple invited him to act as an anti-priest of their ecosexual Blue Wedding to the Sea. Sprinkle performed at MACBA’s Postporn Marathon organized by Preciado, and then also went to the Parliament of Bodies with Stephens.
